Disney shared the exciting news along with a first look and teaser for the upcoming musical adventure. The teaser opens with a familiar coastal scene, reminiscent of Moana’s home, bathed in pastel hues with an island in the distance, evoking nostalgia from the first film. Moana is depicted on the shore, dipping her toes into the sand while waves crash nearby. She blows into a conch shell, signalling the start of another seafaring journey. A boat awaits her, poised for adventure on the shimmering waters.
In the first glimpse shared by Disney on social media, Moana and the demigod Maui are seen navigating the ocean depths, accompanied by a colossal whale beneath them, hinting at the epic scale of their upcoming voyage.
Directed by Dave Derrick Jr, Moana 2 follows Moana on another expansive voyage with Maui and a crew of seafarers, prompted by a message from her wayfinding ancestors.
Meanwhile, talks of a live-action remake of Moana are circulating, with Dwayne Johnson rumoured to voice Maui. Auli’i Cravalho is expected to return for Moana 2, but her involvement in the live-action remake remains uncertain.
